Ethical Problems of Smart Wearable Devices

Authors:

Victor Chang, Xin Xu, Barbara Wong and Victor Mendez

Abstract: With usage of big data and development of advanced technology, smart wearable devices have come to market with multifunction. The wearables include smart watches, smart bands, smart glasses and so on. The big data and data analysis can provide more benefits for users and companies. As for users, smart wearables can help to provide a more convenient and healthier lifestyle. Besides, the big data can provide more support for decision making of companies and may encourage creativity. However, ethical problems also appear with the development of smart wearables. First, vulnerabilities of system can be found, which may pose potential threat to users. Second, misused data will also cause bad influence and the companies should be more transparent on the usage of personal data. Third, some smart wearable companies take priority of multifunction of devices rather than data safety. Based on these problems, different entities should take on responsibilities. Users should improve their awareness and knowledge to protect their personal data. As for companies, some principles of personal data released by OECD can be applied when companies deal with personal information. When it comes to society, supervisions of the industry and support for advanced technology should be carried out.

Privacy and Ethical Issues of Big Data in the Airline Industry

Authors:

Victor Chang, Ziyang Ji and Mitra Arami

Abstract: Big data technology has grown rapidly in recent years, and increasingly applications of this magic in all kinds of occupations bring out a series of effects, be they positive or negative. The airline industry, one of the biggest data producers, has prevailing advantages to utilize big data technology. It assists airline companies to optimize the process of booking, ordering and luggage tracking. Meanwhile, due to the huge amount of data generated, it is possible for them to predict flight delays and then provide better services for consumers. However, the application of big data in the airline industry also results in privacy and ethical issues. Users' information is tracked without permission and several immoral companies overly collect irrelevant personal private data. More disappointing thing is that some airline companies are not able to protect users' information, which causes bad damage on both company values and reputations and consumers’ benefits. As it turns to the ethical issues, the case of United Airlines incident makes people aware of the further needed improvements for overbooking system. And it is also necessary for merchants to reconsider the unfair price strategy. Relevant laws and regulations are required to protect the user information and improve on existing issues.

Requirement Engineering Framework for Financial Cloud (REF-FC)

Authors:

Krishan Chand and Muthu Ramachandran

Abstract: Requirements Engineering (RE) is the most difficult and important stage of any business process or project development. This research endeavour to find out the characteristics and aspects of requirement engineering enforced by cloud computing. Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) has made an impact in the respect to capture the process and to make the changes accordingly for improvement in business operations. The research will define how BPMN can be used as a method of requirement engineering in cloud business operations. The paper will describe the traditional requirement engineering method and business process modeling notation (BPMN) and its subprocesses to differentiate both. Additionally, multiple scenarios will explain the different financial cloud business processes and finally, a case study of financial cloud business has been designed and simulated to propose a requirement engineering framework for financial cloud (REF-FC). In this respect, this paper has developed four research hypothesis and have been validated using BPMN simulation.
